About Liz

I feel most alive when I’m surrounded by the unfamiliar.

Whether that’s foreign words or unusual flavors, on a reporting trip or a solo adventure, the challenge sparks my curiosity.

This need to know more has led me to more than 40 countries on six continents, trekking solo in Nepal, interviewing censored artists in Burma, and exploring ancient rock-cut monasteries in India. I’ve contributed to more than a half dozen Italy travel books for Fodor’s and DK and written for BBC Travel, AFAR, and Tripadvisor among other media outlets.

Though my Northern California roots go back three generations,  I’ve lived in Italy since 2017 and spend more time speaking in Italian than in English — bringing the unfamiliar into my daily life.
